Hand crafted products have always been at the heart of who I am.
From as early as I can recall, crafting with textiles, playing with color and an appreciation for nature built on a deep respect for the earth has been a driving force in my life. My mom and I spent most of my childhood playing with paints, sewing, cooking together and out in the garden. This business is dedicated to her spirit, her endless creativity, resourcefulness and passion for color.

What began as a way to be thrifty in college when I didn’t have the extra funds to buy new has morphed into a way of life based on conscious shopping, voting with my dollar and above all, keeping eco friendly practices at the core of every thing I create, buy and sell.
I began my journey exploring natural dyes during my first year in NYC. I was working as a stylist and constantly running from photoshoots to showrooms  which resulted in a lot of coffee stained shirts (how glamorous, I know). I wasn't going to let a little coffee spill slow me down, so I started experimenting with dyeing using coffee grounds and tea bags. It worked, but not so well that you couldn't tell I stained it first. I started playing with Rit Dyes, which are a great starting point but still contain harsh chemicals and don't seem to last as long. Procion cold-process dyes were the next step, producing vibrant and quirky tie dyes, but I still wanted something cleaner and more eco friendly, and more accessible!
I returned to the idea of using coffee to cover up coffee- that made sense, right? From there I learned about the science of scouring and mordanting as the crucial first step in any natural dye work, which is essentially just deep cleaning the materials and prepping them to absorb dye. Without this, oils, detergents, fragrances and softeners get in the way of the dye matter attaching to the fabric properly. Once I achieved the results I desired from this, I couldn't stop and I was forever hooked on natural dyes.
I began reading books and taking classes from other more experienced artists and through this found a deep love for the process- the slow long hours it takes to prepare fibers for color, to test color combos and different tie dye effects, the time it takes for items to cool and dry before you can untie them and reveal your work, balanced with an appreciation of failure and learning something even when things don't turn out. When the pandemic hit, I was burnt out working a heavily computer-based job as a knitwear designer and turned to natural dyes as a way to soothe my screen-fried brain and de-stress. I started an instagram account to make masks for hospitals with my test swatches, began receiving custom orders and with that this business was born.
When you purchase something from my shop, you are supporting a truly eco-friendly, sustainable, female and queer owned small business. You're supporting my dream of a cleaner earth, a slower life and helping me pass my love of natural color onto others. I hope to one day make this my full time income. Thank you for visiting and for your support!
